Our Story

Two hands, one kitchen table

A diffuser we could not afford, a kitchen table, and a few neighbours who kept knocking on the door. This is how four small products became Soap and Sparkle.

Soap and Sparkle started because a good diffuser cost too much and a cheap one smelled like a taxi. So we made our own, then made some for the neighbours, and it went from there.

Everything is still poured, cured, cut and wrapped by hand in small batches. That is why a bar of soap takes six weeks to reach you, and why we only make what we can make well.

How it happened

From one jar to four products

  1. The first bottle

It started with one amber jar, a bundle of rattan reeds and a lot of trial and error. The first blends were too sweet, then too faint, then finally right: a scent you notice when you walk in and forget about until you leave.

  2. The neighbours

A neighbour asked where the smell in the stairwell came from. Then her sister asked, then a friend of her sister. Before long the kitchen table was covered in jars, labels and a list of names waiting for the next batch.

  3. Soap, slowly

Soap came next, made the old way: olive oil and shea butter, poured by hand and left on the rack for six weeks. It is the slowest thing we make and the one we are proudest of.

  4. For the road, and for the skin

People wanted the scent in the car too, so we made a small diffuser with a brass clip. Then the pure musk oil: no alcohol, gentle enough to wear every day and to prayer.

  5. Still the same table

Thousands of orders later, nothing important has changed. Every batch is still small, every jar is still filled by hand, and every order is still wrapped at the same kitchen table.

What we believe

Four things we will not change

  • Made by hand

No factory, no outsourcing. If it has our name on it, we poured, cut or filled it ourselves.

  • Honest ingredients

Olive oil, shea butter, essential oils, rattan, glass and brass. No palm oil, no parabens, no SLS.

  • Never rushed

Soap cures for six weeks, every time. We would rather run out than send something that is not ready.

  • Less waste

Unbleached paper, reusable linen pouches and glass you can refill.

How it's made

No shortcuts and no factory. Every batch passes through the same three steps, by the same hands, at the same kitchen table.

  1. 01

    Pour

Olive oil, shea butter and essential oils, mixed by hand and poured forty bars at a time.

  2. 02

    Cure

Every bar rests six weeks on the rack. The wait is what makes it last longer and feel gentler on skin.

  3. 03

    Wrap

Unbleached paper, a linen pouch, and a handwritten card if you'd like one. It arrives ready to give.
